A lumbering operation was added to the quarry, but burned down in 1910. The village of Fiborn Quarry existed between 1905 and 1936, when the quarry closed. Remnants include a number of foundations. Historical records of the village and quarry operations, and early descriptions of the caves, have been partially collected by the MKC in its ongoing Fiborn History Project. In a remote area of the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan lies and abandoned time capsule of limestone mining history. The abandoned Fiborn Quarry. Fiborn Quarry Road is a narrow gravel road with standing water filling the ditches on both sides of the road. After about a half mile, we begin to see the road is becoming dotted with large pot holes filled with water. An ORV ride from St. Ignace to Split Rock, Cut River Bridge, Fiborn Quarry, and Rock Rapids.

Fiborn Quarry sits at the heart of an area of subtle but unusual character. A narrow band of nearly pure limestone, within a larger mass of less pure rock of the Niagara Escarpment, outcrops here. Situated between wetland areas to the south and the Hendrie River to the north is a place where time, mankind, and nature have left a unique imprint.
